Kingdom Come Deliverance on PS5? Not yet, but before the sequel from Warhorse's awesome medieval RPG comes out, we hope the first game escapes PS4.

Kingdom Come Deliverance deserves a PS5 port. If you want to spend 100 hours collecting Kingdom Come Deliverance trophies before the sequel releases in 2024, it'll have to be on the last-generation version. Yes, that's right — one of the best RPGs is kind of stuck on PS4 despite the fact I think a PS5 port would greatly improve the game.I love Kingdom Come Delievence. The medieval RPG from 2018 is set in Bohemia. It features a simple boy named Henry as the protagonist, and he's got a lot to learn — from swinging a sword to reading. The RPG elements are pretty hardy but features systems rich in detail and modest writing that finally does away with the grandiose 'saving the world' narratives we've seen a million times over.

However, with a sequel coming to PS5 later this year, I've taken the chance to revisit the PS4 version of the game on my PS5. I love it still, but boy does it need a PS5 port. That likely won't happen any time soon, as I confirmed with the team in a long retrospective.

However, I think that Kingdom Come Deliverance deserves a PS5 port for three key reasons.

KCD has PS4-era loading times

Perhaps the most obvious thing you'll notice when you load in is just how long even booting up Kingdom Come Deliverance takes. It's a good minute before anything happens — though, you do get a glorious spiel about the history of Bohemia to entertain you during the wait. Beyond that, it's the small things that take a while. Menus can be slow, post-quest chats can stutter a bit, and the less I say about 'quick' travel, the better.

The PS5 could remedy literally all of this. Perhaps I've become greedy in this new technological era, but I expect only a few seconds of loading now (if that). It's more powerful and has more memory to deal with the amount happening when loading into game states. The game would run like lightning and it would make revisiting the glorious world of Bohemia much smoother!

Kingdom Come's graphics don't quite deliver anymore

The art direction and environmental design of Kingdom Come Deliverence is second to none, I believe. However, there are some fuzzy edges when it comes to the rest of it. Listen, it doesn't need to have everything in 4K and redesigned faces like The Last of Us Part I.

All KCD needs is a quick facelift. Slightly more detailed textures and shadows to get it up to par with the finest of PC graphics settings would go a long way. Heck, if they want to throw in ray tracing in a graphics mode, sure. Primarily, though, it just needs a little facelift — not the full Botox treatment.

Sir, you simply don't have enough frames per second for this quest

The most jarring thing about going back in video game time is the frame rate of old games. Once you move to 60fps, it's very hard to go back. Kingdom Come Deliverance naturally suffers from this, but especially because it is a game played in first-person. Because you are watching from Henry's POV, the occasionally uneven frame-pacing can make you feel a bit queasy as you jolt around.

Again, it's no game-breaker. The game is great and I'll suffer an atomically small amount to play the brilliance under the slow 30fps. However, a PS5 port would no doubt get the game running at 60fps and I'm pretty sure everybody would be grateful for it. Plus, it just helps give the game parity when the sequel comes out and inevitably runs better than the first game.

So, that's why Kingdom Come Deliverence deserves a PS5 port. I'm sure you'll agree, that'd help one of the best PS4 games live yet another life on a console. So, what do you think? Have you been waiting on a port? Did you play the game already on PS4? Let me know in the comments and I'll see you there!
