Make a difference in the world...More than 1.7 billion people around the world are unbanked and can’t access the financial services they need. Kiva (Kiva.org) is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 in San Francisco, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. How this works. By crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved, improving the quality and cost of financial services, and addressing the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through Kiva's work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care.By lending as little as $5 on Kiva, you can be part of the solution and make a real difference in someone’s life. 100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans.Since 2007, my family have been a staunch supporter of the Kiva organization. Our objective was and still is, to make a difference in the world. And most of the micro-loans (95%) we provide are to women because when you empower women you transform families, communities, and nations.BTW, Kiva's story began in 2005 when its founders, Matt Flannery and Jessica Jackley, wereinspired by the hardworking entrepreneurs they met on their trips to underserved countries like Tanzania, Uganda, India and South Africa."Kiva is a simple concept that can change a person's life." - Oprah

My ZIP code has roughly 43,000 people in it. In 2022, nearly 850 business & nonprofit entities were created.Of these:* 260 are delinquent on renewing (30.5%)* 110 are noncompliant (12.9%)* 58 have dissolved (6.8%)That's over half. I'd be curious to do a quick compare and contrast with other ZIP codes nearby, and to find out roughly where my neighborhood stands in Colorado.I would not be surprised to learn that we're below average on many of these metrics. There's a reason we're being targeted by small business incubators like Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute.#data #smallbusiness

Save the new car purchase for another time. It doesn’t make sense for a cash-strapped new grad to invest in a new car.Debt cannot be ignored. Ignoring debt can have major consequences. Always pay more than the minimum on any debt. It’s tempting to pay just the minimum but the cost, in the long run, will mean paying double, triple, or more of the original debt borrowed. Never make a large purchase with no money down!www.leveragefoundation.org#financialmanagement #budgeting #selfleadership #leadership #communitydevelopment #nonprofit #development #outreach #projectmanagement #smallbusiness #entrepreneur #businessbuilding #women #men #youth #markets #marketing #branding #strategies

Some good news in a troubled world😊 I am a big supporter of Kiva (https://www.kiva.org/), which is a microlending organization that provides small loans to hard-working, but disadvantaged people whom the big banks won't help. You can loan as little as $25, and the default rate is very low, so you get most of the money back. How good is that?? Some highlights from the report:- 80% of Kiva loans supported women- 75% of loans to refugees allowed them to start or expand a business- Total loans in 2023: $176 million- Total number of people helped: 430,000Here's a link to the Annual Report:( https://lnkd.in/gQeMBNgJ)

Looking for a low effort, high impact way to 'Invest In Women: Accelerate Progress' this International Women's Day? You can support Kiva.org in their mission to support 4,000 women from just $25. Kiva.org facilitates microloans to entrepreneurs in underserved communities worldwide. Their mission is to expand financial access to underserved communities without access to traditional banking services. After you sign up, you are taken to a user-friendly interface where you can browse through profiles of entrepreneurs from around the world, each sharing their business story and funding needs. With as little as $25, you can contribute to a loan for a business that resonates with you. Once the loan reaches its funding goal, it's disbursed to the entrepreneur. Over time, as the borrower repays the loan, the funds return to your Kiva account, allowing you to reinvest in another project or withdraw your money if you need it. Investing in women-owned microbusinesses through Kiva.org is not just an act of charity; it's an investment in community resilience, economic diversification, and gender equity. Research consistently shows that women reinvest a significant portion of their income back into their families and communities, leading to improved health, education, and overall well-being. I invested a few hundred dollars in Kiva back in 2008, and have periodically supported them with ongoing monthly top-ups of $5 to $10 since. Over the years, as loans were repaid and reinvested, not only did this initial investment continue to circulate, but it also grew into a more substantial fund.I cannot overstate the joy and satisfaction I get each and every time I jump into the platform and reinvest in a new business, or when I get that email letting me know that my loan has been repaid. It's been an ongoing source of warm fuzzies for me for nearly 2 decades and in that time, of hundreds of loans, I've only ever had 6 remain unpaid. This model works. In this post, I've included an image of Lata, a Tongan woman who makes a living from weaving. Her business also employs 3 other women. I made a $25 investment in Lata's business this morning from my existing pool of Kiva money and supported 4 families in my local region. As Scotty M would say, how good is that? #IWD2024 #internationalwomensday #kiva

Two days back, I had an awesome privilege to coordinate a three day camp under a theme "Being a great example in Speech". Fountain of life Ministries (FOLM) non profit, runs holidays camps with an holistic approach in a rural community targeting children, youths & women. On average 70 children attended season #5 camp and my outstanding moment was when the boys and girls teams were formed and each was asked how they would use Ugx. 100,000/= ~$26. Lists were presented to identify needs & wants. The boys spent all their money & the girls found themselves incurring a debt. This opened a platform for our financial literacy discussion. Both teams prioritised spending and none thought of saving. Isn't it true that majority of us think about saving after spending? The incredible Bottle banks from the incredible Angels from Little Angels Nursery and Day Care School-Bweyogerere spiced up the crowing moment for the 9yrs and above to reinforce our session. The bottle bank will teach these 50 children record keeping & how to earn, save & invest from now till December 2024. What a challenge passed on! #KidzMentorship#Entrepreneurship#savings#FinancialLiteracy

The 1MM Experiment !The ambitious 1MM Experiment was launched with the aim of providing one million meals annually. In our inaugural year, 84,000 meals were successfully distributed, marking the beginning of our mission. Efforts were subsequently expanded to encompass educational initiatives, including the personal teaching of subjects like Math and English. Additionally, the distribution of essential commodities, such as blankets, was initiated to offer holistic support to those in need.In the pursuit of sustainable funding, the concept of micro-finance was turned to. Through the generosity of a few companies and the public, over $60,000 (₹50 lakhs) was raised. These funds were leveraged to provide small loans to aspiring entrepreneurs and vendors, fostering business ideas and empowering individuals to realize their potential. The interest earned from these loans not only sustained our projects but also fueled further investments, creating a cycle of support and opportunity. While micro-financing interest rates can be high, prioritization was given to sustainability over profitability, with rates tailored to ensure accessibility for borrowers. As connections with like-minded individuals, organizations, and donors continue to be sought, the steadfast goal remains: to collaborate and build a brighter, sustainable future for the underprivileged. Through combined efforts, the aspiration is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those served.

Targeted Video Strategies in English, Spanish, and Portuguese

I had 20 minutes to shoot this video after eating lunch there. It was with The Lending Journey in Quito, Ecuador, one of the women entrepreneurs they are supporting there. The Lending Journey supplies microloans, mostly to indigenous women who want to create better working opportunities for themselves and their communities. While in Ecuador, I was helping translate a document for a microloan someone took out from a local bank. The interest rates on loans under $10,000 USD were between 30-50% per year. This is nothing short of usury, but these are the terms available to the disenfranchised. I love working with The Lending Journey because they provide these loans at fair rates, rates that can be paid back, while still teaching the important principles around interest. They also come alongside the entrepreneurs with business training and support. They give opportunity, and through these opportunities these women are able to feed their families, provide employment opportunities for their community, better educate their children, and experience the dignity they deserve. Better still, once the loan is repaid, the money goes toward supporting another entrepreneur in Ecuador. I only had 20 minutes to shoot this video, when really I would have liked 90 minutes, but I gave it the best I could. These stories are stories worth telling, of hope, and resilience, and dignity. #microlearning #latinamerica #southamerica #video #charity #fundraising #spanish #womenentrepreneurs #ecuador --------------------------Having trouble getting high quality digital media from Latin America?
