Candace Owens calls out Cardi B over Biden remarks (2024)

American commentator Candace Owens has called out Cardi B after the rapper turned on President Joe Biden in a 10-minute live session on Instagram over the weekend.

The "WAP" hitmaker, who participated in Biden campaign promotion when he was a presidential candidate, has now vowed that she will never endorse another aspiring president. This came after it was announced that there would be a 5 percent budget cut to public services in her native New York City.

Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, posted the video following New York City Mayor Eric Adams saying on November 16 that the cut would affect several services in the city, including the police, public libraries, schools, and sanitation. Video footage of Cardi B's rant was shared on X, formerly Twitter, where it has garnered more than 14 million views.

Now Owens has called out the rapper for taking issue with the president after endorsing his presidential campaign in 2020. "I love that @iamcardib is going viral for sensibly stating that America is not putting its citizens first while opining about how it's our moral duty to help every nation overseas," Owens posted to X on November 19.

"I only wish she had done this before she helped to elect a senile man whose party has single-handedly created the migrant crisis that taxpayers are now suffering the consequences from," Owens added.

"You get what you vote for. Whether she is sincere and is now ready to learn rather than be used by far-left politicians will become clear in the next election cycle. Maybe she and I should sit down. For old time's sake." Newsweek reached out to Owens and Cardi B representatives for comment via email Monday.

In August 2020, Cardi B, who has publicly criticized former President Donald Trump on several occasions, took part in a Zoom interview for Elle with then-presidential candidate Biden.

During their conversation, Cardi B spoke about issues her fans want to be resolved during his presidential term, such as free college and Medicare. While Cardi B endorsed Biden at the time, she has since changed her tune.

"I'm an angry b**** right now... I need y'all to spread this video, and if something happens to me, it's because I'm speaking the truth," she said during the Instagram live.

"In New York, there is a $120 million budget cut in New York that's going to affect schools, public libraries, and the police department... And a $5 million budget cut in sanitation," Cardi B added. "B****, we are going to be drowning in f****** rats.

"I'm not endorsing no f****** president no more," the rap star said, adding that while New York City is facing the cuts, "Joe Biden's talking about, 'Yeah, we can fund two wars."

This isn't the first time that Owens has called out Cardi B online as she and the rapper have gotten into various arguments over the years. Their feud began on September 6, 2020, when Owens tweeted a clip of her interview with fellow conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. In it, she expressed their mutual disregard for Cardi B following her No. 1 hit "WAP" and her Elle interview with former Vice President Biden.

Owens then said the rapper was illiterate and added that the interview with Biden was carefully handled to appeal to young Black American voters. Cardi B responded by sharing a video of her sister Hennessy Carolina and her girlfriend being harassed by Trump supporters "because they are a Afro/Hispanic gay couple."

Owens took further issue with "WAP" when Cardi B performed the hit song at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Owens appeared on Fox News' Tucker Carlson show where she said that Cardi B's performance was heralding the "destruction of American values and American principles."

The pair's feud was ignited once again in February 2022, when, during an appearance on the Full Send podcast, Owens called Cardi B uneducated.

In response, Cardi B wrote online: "What's embarrassing is that she tried to get her lawyers to make me do a public apology after she been attacking me for months and try to make me pay her 75K in a month or she threatened to sue wit NO CASE..... Like how smart you are and don't even know the law?"
